Greytown, Wairarapa: Gardens Shopping & Food - Private Day Tour
- Duration: 9 Hours (approx.)
- Location: Wellington, Wellington
- Product code: dtgw
A scenic one hour drive north of Wellington, Greytown boasts beautiful Victorian architecture, and is a wonderful mix of rural pace and sophisticated style.
Crossing the Rimutaka mountain range, we stop in Featherston for coffee and peek in some of the shops. We continue north to The Olive Press where you can purchase locally produced olives, olive oils and body products.
At Kahikatea Gardens, hosts Neil and Greg will show you around their private paradise, which is full of flowering shrubs and trees, old farm machinery and art. The animals are friendly - and hungry!
We dine at one of the many great local restaurants. After lunch we explore the shops of Greytown, and learn more of the history of the area at the Cobblestones Museum. We can check out Schoc Chocolate as we leave town.
En route back to Wellington, we stop at Fernside (formerly a US Ambassadorial residence), to walk the expansive gardens, which featured in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy.
